Welcome to What Biden Did This Week, a series I’m starting to spread the word about Biden’s accomplishments as President by sharing a week-by-week list of everything he’s accomplishing in real time. This is the 2nd article in the series so far.

This week was largely dominated by the crazy Republicans controlling the house, which dominated the headlines, but Biden was still able to get some important things done.

Economy

• Monday: Biden continued to fix the broken student loan repayment system by cancelling even more student loans for certain borrowers, although there’s no data on how many borrowers benefitted as of right now

• Tuesday: Announced an expansion of free school lunch programs to 3,000 more school districts and millions of students

• Tuesday: Biden marched with UAW workers in their picket line, becoming the first sitting president to do so

Healthcare

• Wednesday: Announced his 176th new judicial nominee to fight back against Republican attacks on the law and personal freedom

• Friday: Announced $330 million in new funding for his “Cancer Moonshot” initiative

Climate Change

• Tuesday: Vetoed two Republican bills that would have gutted protections for endangered Lesser Prairie-Chickens and Northern Long-Eared Bats

• Thursday: The Senate failed to override his vetoes, ensuring their protections would remain

• Thursday: Finalized rule to ensure that communities are properly protected from “forever chemicals”

• Friday: Finalized plans to phase out all single-use plastics on federal lands by 2032

• Friday: Proposed a plan for offshore oil leases with the fewest number in history

Immigration

• Friday: Set goals for refugee admissions for the next fiscal year, where he hopes to hit a level of 125,000 admissions, a level not achieved in over 3 decades.

Misc.

• Wednesday: Proposed “game changing” modifications to foster care regulations to protect LGBTQ youth and make care easier

• Thursday: Used the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to combat antisemitism and islamophobia.
